Granting permissions on the kid app

Walk through every Android permission SafeKids Kid needs to keep your child safe.

Updated: 2026-04-20

This page is the most important. The kid app deep-links here whenever it shows the autostart screen.

1. Location — Always allow

Tap the location prompt and choose Allow all the time. This lets the parent see your child's position even when the kid app isn't open.

Location permission

2. Usage Access

Settings > Apps > Special app access > Usage access > SafeKids Kid > Allow.

This is what counts screen time. Without it, schedules cannot work.

3. Display over other apps

Settings > Apps > Special app access > Display over other apps > SafeKids Kid > Allow.

This lets us show the lock screen when bedtime starts.

4. Notifications

When prompted, choose Allow. We send only essential alerts (SOS, schedule starts, low battery on the kid device).

5. Battery — Unrestricted

Settings > Apps > SafeKids Kid > Battery > Unrestricted.

This prevents Android from killing the app in the background.

6. Autostart (vendor-specific)

Some Android vendors require an extra step. See:

Verify

Open the parent app — you should see your child's profile turn green (online) within a minute.
